Space maintainers are used when a child loses a baby tooth prematurely. This is usually because of extensive decay, dental trauma or gum, and tooth infection. They serve the purpose to keep the gap open, preventing the neighbouring tooth from shifting. This allows for the natural and healthy growth of the adult tooth.

There are two types of space maintainers; Fixed or Removable.
Removable: These are common against older kids, as they are more likely to take them out and more likely to maintain better oral habits. We advise parents to keep a close eye to make sure they don’t get lost.
Fixed: A permanent metal string that is held down with dental cement on one or more teeth.
To get the most benefit we advise children to avoid eating hard and chewy food until the adult tooth starts growing.
Which one is best for your child depends on your child’s age and other factors. Once you or your child start seeing the adult teeth growing, quickly book an appointment to get the situation assessed.

Atria Dental is conveniently located on Pacific Highway in Gordon. The clinic is less than 200m from Gordon train station and 10m from the nearest bus stop. The clinic is fully pram/wheelchair accessible and has no stairs from door to surgery.
The clinic is a mere 11 minute drive from Macquarie Centre and a 5 minute drive from the Gordon Golf Club near Killara.
If you wish to drive to the clinic, 2 hour parking can be found in a car park on Moree Street behind the practice, alternatively there is another private carpark across the road. If you require a more than 2 hours, street parking is available further down Moree Street.
