Single Visit Root Canal Treatment

Single Visit Root Canal Treatment in Gordon

Single Visit Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also called endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure where a dentist replaces a tooth’s damaged or infected pulp with a filling to restore and save the tooth.

Traditionally, the treatment occurred over two or more visits to the dentist. The first appointment is when the infected dental pulp is procedurally removed while the second (and any follow-ups) is when the root canal is cleaned and filled. Today, modern advancements in laser dental technology allow for some root canals to be completed in just a single visit!

Single Visit Root Canal Treatment
Can I choose a single-visit root canal procedure?

The amount of time your root canal treatment will take varies on a case-by-case basis. While a single-visit treatment is possible, it cannot be guaranteed. Factors like the procedural level of difficulty, type of tooth affected, and severity of infection/damage influence the length of time your root canal will take.

Professional consultation is the only way to understand what your treatment will involve and get an idea of how many visits it may take. To discuss your situation, book a consultation with our experienced dentists in Gordon today.

Causes: When is root canal treatment necessary?

Root canal therapy treats damaged or diseased dental pulp, the centre (the root) of the tooth comprised of connective tissue, nerves, blood vessels, and cells.

Damaged or diseased pulp is usually the result of an issue that started in the outer layer of the teeth (the enamel) and has spread to the innermost dental layers. Common causes include:

  • Severe tooth decay
  • Cavities
  • Dental infections
  • Dental trauma
  • Cracked, broken or chipped teeth

Left untreated, the damaged tooth pulp can cause immense pain, swelling, eventual tooth loss and if infected, the bacteria can spread to the jaw bone and other parts of the body.
